ABOUT RUMBA JAZZ
Rumba Jazz
Founded in 1990, the group's main focus is performing Latin jazz or more appropriately, Afro-Cuban jazz music (the mixture of jazz improvisations and Cuban and African rhythms).
The founding members are leader/musical director, Raul Rico, Jr. - congas, timbales & percussion and Malcolm Ian Peters - bass.
Training and background of Rumba Jazz
Raul Rico, Jr., has been performing professionally for 34 years. He has been a member of "The Estrada Brothers," "The Nava Brothers," "Canela," "Nuestro," "Sabor Latino Big Band," "Tropical Knights" and "Equinox." In addition to "Rumba Jazz" Raul has also led the group, "Rubaya" and led the 14 piece salsa orchestra, "Sonido Libre."
Malcolm Ian Peters has been performing professionally for 30 years. He has been a member of "The Estrada Brothers," Songon," "Somos Son," "Conga Punks," "Rubaya," "Sensacion," "Tropical Knights" and "Brisa."
Today, Raul and Malcolm perform with the Ventura County based Latin band, "Nuestro" and Raul is starting his 14th year with the Santa Barbara based Cuban salsa band, "Somos Son."
